After 7 years as a professional musician, and over 500 regional shows performed, Mathew Haeffel still enjoys performing dynamic and engaging shows for any audience that will have him. His self-penned sound has an ability to appeal to any age group, and to fit comfortably into any setting. He has been fortunate to grace the stages of larger Wisconsin venues such as The Brat Stop (Kenosha, WI), The Alpine Valley Music Theater’s VIP Stage (East Troy, WI), and Shank Hall (Milwaukee, WI) as well as a variety of medium to small clubs, restaurants, colleges, festivals, and coffee houses throughout Wisconsin, Illinois, Iowa, and Nebraska. He also continues to gain recognition from many regional commercial and non-commercial media outlets such as Milwaukee’s Alt-Magazine, 102.1 WLUM-FM (Milwaukee, WI commercial radio), and Today’s TMJ 4 (Milwaukee, WI NBC affiliate). In 2008 Jamie Lee Rake of Milwaukee’s culture newspaper, The Shepherd Express, called Mathew’s music “Groove-oriented, improvisational-minded folk rock with a smattering of world music flavors…” While Milwaukee’s 91.7 WMSE-FM had a different interpretation of his sound, “This Milwaukee singer and songwriter performs acoustic music that walks the unlikely line between folk and jam band-as if Phish and Tim Buckley went camping on Max Yasgur’s farm. Haeffel’s earthy voice and delivery add up to much more than merely the sum of his influences…” No matter how his sound is categorize or for whom he is playing, Mathew prides himself on doing his part to forward his craft as an art form, and not just a direct means to celebrity status. Currently, Haeffel shows no signs of slowing down. He continues to perform regularly with and without his backing band, and recently released his first full length LP (2010’s “Rhythm Ethics”). Developed using top end recording techniques fused with quality studio guests who perform with the Bodeans, Stealin’ Strings, John Mayer, Prince, and Bonnie Raitt, it reflects his maturity as a performer, and the respect more prominent artists are willing to give his sound. Always humble on a personal level and focused professionally, Haeffel plans to continue to utilize all available avenues, as a means to continue to do what he loves for years to come. A value is required.
